How to choose a polythene bag size

A bag should fit your product with a little room to fill and close. As a rule, the bag width needs to cover the product width plus its depth, and the bag length needs the product length plus the depth and a margin to seal above it. Mailing bags need extra length for the lip and permanent seal. For gauge, heavier, sharper or bulkier contents need a thicker film.

Once you have a size, check the gauge in microns and gauge or send it to us for a quote.

How do I measure for a polythene bag?

Measure your product width, length and depth in millimetres. A flat bag needs to fit the width plus the depth, with a little ease, and enough length to close and seal above the product.

What gauge of bag do I need?

Light items suit around 45 to 50 micron, general use around 75 micron, and heavy, sharp or bulky items 100 to 120 micron or more. When in doubt, go a little heavier or ask us.

Can you make a bespoke bag size?
